Resources on Racism and BLM
I thought it might be helpful to compile a number of resources that analyze the current "debate" surrounding racism. I trust these will help Christians to not be taken in by various unbiblical philosophies being peddled these days. There are a number of great resources out there and I may add more as time goes on. But, for now, here's what I have...
Audio Resources
Just Thinking Podcast: Ep 102, "Black Lives Matter?" This is one of the most helpful explanations and exposés of the BLM organization that I've come across. It is a long episode but it will leave you informed about what the organization is all about. It is very well researched and will let you hear some of the claims of BLM founders in their own words. The Hamilton Corner Podcast, Sep 7: "Black Lives Matter Are 'Trained Marxists' and They Are Trained in Other Things Too." This episode begins dealing with the topic at the 27:00 mark. You'll hear a couple founders of BLM describe (in their own words and with their own voices) their spiritual beliefs which involve ancestor worship. You probably wouldn't believe it otherwise, but this lets them explain their own paganism for themselves. This is also available on your phone's podcast app.
The Causes of Things Podcast: Ep 20, "Systemic." This short episode is loaded with information. It gives something of a 35,000 foot overview of what's happening in our world today. The word "systemic" is continually thrown around, but you may not know just how loaded the term is. This podcast shows how behind this term is the understanding that "the 'old' systems that govern our society such as our justice system, our law enforcement systems, our economic systems are full of privileges, power, and prejudices that are meant to create inequality. Of course, those that seek to replace our 'old' systems have 'new' systems that are actually quite old: Marxian inspired systems of equity and discrimination." The Sword and the Trowel Podcast: "Tom Nettles - Having a Christian Understanding of History." How do we evaluate history? Where is history headed? What do we make of turmoil in the world? A Christian understanding of history will help us answer these questions, keep us from some of the present errors, and encourage us when things in society seem to be going badly. Iron Sharpens Iron Radio, Aug 19, "Debunking the Myth of the Noble Savage." Colonialism is often presented as if Europeans came and disrupted a peaceful way of life when they conquered the land. It is cited as proof of the West being inherently racist. This podcast discusses the complexity of this matter and, without excusing evils committed, explains why this is an overly simplistic take on history. The man interviewed is Dr. Tony Costa, a professor at Toronto Baptist Seminary. This is also available on your phone's podcast app.
"Avoiding Captivity to Empty Philosophies," Kevin Armstrong, Gospel of Grace Fellowship Pulpit. Here was my effort to address this from the pulpit. In light of being in Colossians 2:8, it seemed right to me and our elders to address these issues from the pulpit as many evangelicals seem to be in danger of swallowing ideas that are rooted in philosophies which are not in accordance with Christ.
